Currently enjoying record numbers of almost 20 million annual passengers, Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) is amongst South Asia' busiest and is situated 22 km / 14 miles south of New Delhi and directly north-east of nearby Gurgaon.

The airport is the main gateway to India and a vital link between India and rest of the globe. At present, the International Terminal (Terminal 2) serves 35 airlines, flying to major destinations throughout the world, while the Domestic Terminal (Terminal 1) has three main gates. The largest selection of services are provided by the flag carrier of Air India and also the state-owned Indian Airlines.

The Delhi Indira Gandhi Airport currently handles an average of around 13,000 domestic and almost 10,000 international passengers a day. By road, the distance between the two terminals is approximately 8 km / 5 miles. The smaller Safdarjung Airport is used for general aviation and lies directly east of Delhi's Indira Gandhi facility.


Taxis serve the airport and buses operate from the arrivals area of Terminal 2 to central Delhi via Terminal 1, linking Indira Gandhi International Airport with the historic Shahjahanabad area, Connaught Plaza and Central Delhi. Buses run 24 hours a day, with a journey time of approximately 50 minutes. A railway reservations desk is situated in the Arrivals area of Terminal 1, while bookings for air-conditioned coaches can be made in the Arrivals Hall of Terminal 2, where information about the coach services is also provided.
